What is spunlace fabric?
Spunlace fabric is a type of nonwoven fabric produced using a hydroentanglement process. It is made by interlocking fibers together with high-pressure water jets. The manufacturing process involves several steps, including pre-treatment, web formation, hydroentanglement, cleaning, and finishing.
Manufacturing process of spunbond fabric:
Spunbond fabric is produced by extruding melted polymer fibers into continuous filaments, which are then solidified through cooling to form a nonwoven fabric. The production process includes fiber extrusion, web formation, thermal stretching, and cooling. Compared to spunlace fabric, the manufacturing process of spunbond fabric is more complex and requires advanced equipment.
Differences in physical properties:
There are significant differences between spunlace fabric and spunbond fabric. In terms of fiber structure, spunlace fabric has a looser structure, resulting in relatively lower filtration efficiency. On the other hand, spunbond fabric has a denser fiber structure, providing excellent filtration efficiency, especially for filtering viruses. That's why it is commonly used in the production of face masks. Spunlace fabric is known for its softness, good moisture absorption, and breathability, while spunbond fabric offers high strength, good abrasion resistance, and superior tensile properties. Spunlace fabric exhibits excellent water absorption properties, making it an ideal material for wet wipes, facial cleansing wipes, and medical dressings. In comparison, spunbond fabric has lower liquid absorbency but is suitable for applications requiring higher mechanical strength and protective performance, such as medical masks, KN95 masks, and N95 respirators.

Although the manufacturing processes of spunlace fabric and spunbond fabric are somewhat similar, spunlace fabric has a simpler production process compared to spunbond fabric, resulting in lower costs. Spunbond fabric, with its more complex production process, tends to have higher manufacturing costs.
