Previously, when the Xin Guan epidemic was very serious, our company produced thousands of tons of raw materials for face masks, which are non-woven fabrics. The main materials used to manufacture face masks are melt-blown fabrics, non-woven fabrics, and other materials such as melt-blown fusion electrostatic fabrics, anti-adhesive melt-blown fabrics, anti-adhesive melt-blown fabrics, activated carbon cartridges, and metal nose clips. What is their role, I will list the following points.

Meltblown Fabric: Meltblown fabric is one of the most critical materials used in the manufacture of masks. It is made by spraying molten polypropylene or similar material at high speeds onto cooling rollers to form fine fibers that are subsequently laminated. Meltblown fabric has highly efficient filtration properties, filtering out tiny particles and bacteria, and is the filter layer in a mask.

Nonwoven Fabric: a material made from continuous fibers of nonwoven polypropylene (NWPP) through a process of hot-melting, spinning, and cooling. It is made by spinning the polypropylene fibers into threads and placing them in a transparent porous mesh. It has the advantages and characteristics of softness, breathability, and durability, haha, the most powerful role of the mask is here. Non-woven fabrics are mainly used in the outer and inner layers of masks to effectively block liquid splashes and coarse particulate matter.

Meltblown Molten Electrostatic Fabric: is a material made by combining meltblown fabric with electrostatic charge treatment. The electrostatic charge enhances the filtration effect, adsorbs tiny particles and bacteria, and improves filtration efficiency.

Spunbond Meltblown Fabric: is a composite material made by combining a nonwoven fabric with a meltblown fabric. It combines the softness of nonwoven fabric and the filtration performance of meltblown fabric, with a better filtration effect and comfort.

Activated carbon cartridge: this is a material used in masks to adsorb harmful gases and odors. It usually consists of activated carbon particles, which can adsorb formaldehyde, odor, and harmful chemicals.

Metal Nose Clip: This is usually used on the upper part of the mask to adjust the fit of the mask. It is usually made of aluminum wire and can be adjusted to fit the shape of an individual's nose to ensure a tight fit of the mask.

Medical Masks

Medical masks are usually made up of multiple layers, where each layer plays a different role to provide better filtration efficiency and protection. Below is a description of the three common layers in medical masks and their filtration efficiency:

1. Outer layer of the mask: The outer layer of the mask is usually made of a non-woven material, whose main role is to block larger particles, liquid splashes, and gross contaminants. The filtration efficiency of this layer is low and generally does not filter out tiny particles and pathogens, but it can play a role in preventing liquid penetration and blocking large particles.

2. Mask middle layer: The middle layer of the mask is usually made of Melt-blown Fabric, a material with high filtration efficiency. The melt-blown fabric has very small fiber diameters that effectively filter out tiny particles, bacteria, and viruses. The filtration efficiency of this layer is high enough to meet medical-grade standards.

3. Inner layer of the mask: The inner layer of the mask is usually made of soft and comfortable non-woven material, which is in contact with the face and has good breathability. This layer mainly plays the role of comfort moisture absorption and perspiration, reducing the discomfort and humidity of the mask in the process of use.

It should be noted that the filtration efficiency of a mask is also affected by other factors such as the fit of the mask, the method of use, and the quality of manufacture. When selecting and using masks, it is recommended to follow the relevant usage guidelines and choose mask products that comply with the standards and certifications.
